Primary, secondary & Tertiary Recycling

In this weeks home learning your chalenge is to develop your knowledge and understanding of primary, secondary and tertiary recycling. 

Your home learning challenge is to read and understand the definitions, so that you can create a comic strip which informs people about the difference between the three types of recycling.

Task One

Primary Recycling – Secondhand use of a product without changing or altering the product, such as giving clothes to a charity shop or selling on ebay, leaving newspapers & magazines in a dentist/doctors surgery for other people to read. It is simply to reuse it. 

Secondary Recycling – mechanically cutting/altering the product in some way to use it in another way (without the use of chemicals), such as cutting up magazines to use as a collage, cutting a plastic bottle in half to use as a plant pot. 

 Tertiary Recycling – Completely breaking down a product into molecules using a chemical process and then turning it into a completely new product, such as breaking down rubber car tyres and then re-processing them into computer mouse-mats or plastic bottles broken down chemically and threads re-spun into polyester to make fleece fabric.

Design problem
Transport for london have been asked to add wordless adverts to the Buses and underground trains which inform people about recycling. This is a major campaign and will include many different signs produced on different topics over the course of the year. You have been asked to produce the first one.

Design brief
Design a comic strip advertisement which informs people about the difference between the three types of recycling; Primary, Secondary and Tertiary. 

Specification
It must have three parts/cells. ie, one for each mode of recycling.
It can only include four words, Recycling, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.
It must be understanding in a busy train/bus
It must be simple and catchy
It must have bold colours
It could be either computer or hand generated or be a combination of both
